EARLY NEWS

BIKERS BREAK RECORDS AT CHARITY FUNDRAISER

Almost 600 motorcycles, scooters and three-wheelers took part in the annual Wolds Run from our Morton Way offices on Sunday morning. And a staggering £8000 was raised for the Lymphoma Association on the day thanks to the efforts of Malcolm and Julie Wheeler and a small army of helpers who played their part in making this one of the biggest bike runs in the UK. (We are hoping the Lottery fund will match this amount - news to follow!)

Despite threatening clouds and conflicting weather reports, it kept dry for the 55-mile run around some of Lincolnshire’s finest countryside.

Riders started arriving for check in by 8am – a full three hours before the off! Some had ridden from as far afield as Cleveland. Without doubt there were more modern machines than ever before and all classes were up on last year, including a fine turn out of scooters.

The route took in Woodhall Spa, Bucknall and across to the Wolds before a mid-way stop at the Green Man in Scamblesby. Many of the earlier machines were tested by both Red Hill and Scamblesby Hill; for many it’s almost more difficult going down than going up!

Malc and Julie were delighted with the response. ‘Without the help of friends and staff from Mortons this would not be possible. It makes all the effort worthwhile and I am hopeful we will get additional funding from the National Lottery. If we got matched funding that would be fantastic,’ said Malcolm.

Rider's Feedback - 2007

On behalf of the Vintage Motor Scooter Club(VMSC) I would like to thank everyone associated with this event, especially Malc and Julie who made us most welcome.
As a club we have a number of members, my wife included, who have suffered from various cancers, so to be part of something to help fight this disease resonates very well with us. A great day with like minded people, and hopefully we will have a bigger VMSC presence next year.

As a Wolds run virgin on my old cream and black MZ, I felt the need to just write and thank you all for the hard work your staff put into this years run. I was impressed with how little I had to wait to sign in or get a drink. The ride itself was easy to follow without the need for the directions, and the hog roast very welcome at the end a great day out thanks. Sorry to all those who had to follow my smoke trail round to run :-)

Thanks to Malc, Julie & all at Mortons for another GREAT WOLDS RUN I look forward to next year
